The Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly plans to procure containers as a storehouse for premix fuel.

This it believes will forestall the occurrence of explosions. Currently, the fuel is stored in the homes of individuals.

The situation has been blamed for the explosion at Kormantse when a food vendor’s fire was cited as the cause of an explosion there leaving four people dead.

Some residents were forced to abandon their homes in fear of being caught up in the blaze.

In an interview with Citi News, the MCE for Mfantsiman, Kenneth Kelly Essuman, said these containers would be kept at the beach where the fishermen would visit regularly for their premix fuel.

“One of these new ways we want to use to store the fuel is to get a warehouse by the beach. We want to procure these 40-footer containers and line them up at the beach front… When you buy the fuel from the sales point, you will go and keep it there when they are not going for fishing.”

Mr. Essuman also said this move could boost employment in the area too.

“At least we will create employment because we will get people who we are going to employ as security to keep guard to also prevent thievery.”
