The Police administration has given assurances that it will not shield any of its officers who are found to have broken the law in any way.
It said it will ensure that such officers are duly sanctioned and dealt with speedily by law.
The Director-General of Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, ACP David Eklu gave the assurance on the back of a recent arrest of a police officer alongside a military person and a civilian for their involvement in various robbery cases in Accra.
He told Citi News in an interview that, the Inspector General of Police, David Asante
“The assurance is that, these suspects were arrested by our own officers so we don’t condone acts of criminality. And when it happens to be an officer or any other security person, we deal with it swiftly because we must set a good example,” he said.
“There are reminders that the IGP sends to police officers. Now we have a WhatsApp group and send messages that every police officer who has a mobile phone receives from the IGP reminding them of best practices and to be professional and also administration instructions are also issued,” he added.
The 3 suspects
The three men were arrested at Weija in connection with robbery activities in Accra. The suspects were picked up around 11:30 am on Thursday.
The civilian has been identified as Krosby Ofory Danso, the soldier; Corporal Bernard Tsagli and the police officer; Lance Corporal Asamoah.
Police noted that the soldier and police officer are not in active service and are currently on bail “facing similar charges” for a different robbery.
The security personnel are also facing “quasi-judicial enquiries in their various institutions,” the Acting Accra Regional Commander, DCOP Kweku Boadu Pepra said to the media.
At the Accra Regional Police Command, Citi News’ Kojo Agyeman reported that “the police described them as criminals who have been operating or running a robbery syndicate over the years.”
